In2scienceUK is calling for cancer research labs in London and Cambridge to host undergrads for its In2research programme.
Hosts will supervise participants for an 8-week, paid summer research placement, providing them with experiences and confidence to access postgraduate research degrees and careers.
Submit a proposal by 27 January to be a placement host and help promote social mobility and build a more inclusive research community. |

FUNDING BOOST FOR EXPERIMENTAL TREATMENTS FOR CANCER Funding for the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) network has been renewed for the next 5 years, following a successful review of the network.
ECMCs are funded by Cancer Research UK, together with the health departments of the devolved nations and new partner the Little Princess Trust, to deliver cutting-edge experimental treatments for children, young people and adults. Since the ECMC network was established, 30,000 patients have taken part in 2,100 early-phase trials of promising new cancer treatments.
The paediatric network will receive a boost in funding to expand research and tackle the unique challenges presented by cancers in children and young people. |

SERENA NIK-ZAINAL'S DNA GRAFFITI RESEARCH Congratulations to Serena Nik-Zainal, who gave the Royal Societys Francis Crick Prize Lecture 2022 earlier this month.
Serena was awarded the Francis Crick Medal for her contributions to understanding mutation patterns in human cancer, which is now being applied to cancer therapy.
In her lecture, Serena explained that just like recognising Banksys graffiti style, we can identify signatures in cancer. Every cancer has unique biological abnormalities, which has immense potential for application in precision medicine. |
