By Bob Warren Parades have been happening here and there for a few weeks now. But you could consider this weekend the big kickoff of the 2022 Carnival season – 21 traditional parades from New Orleans to Metairie to Slidell. Twenty-one! Have fun, friends. And behave yourselves! (Related: Being queen of Argus runs in this family. More related: Look for three spinoff krewes from the Nyx fallout. ) Can't make it the route? We give you . . . Parade Cam. Lost at sea: A lot of you have been following the search for the woman who went overboard the cruise ship Carnival Valor this week. She remains missing and authorities have called off the search. Other passangers said a scuffle preceded the woman going over the railing. Rolling back: New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has asked City Council members to roll back some restrictions on law enforcement that were put into place barely a year ago. Cantrell seeks an ordinance seeks to end the bans on facial recognition and other types of surveillance. (Our Editorial Board has weighed in on this in the past.) On camera: The fatal shooting of a man by deputies in Jefferson Parish this week is the first to be recorded on deputies' body-worn cameras, which the agency began rolling last year. The Sheriff's Office said the video was taken as evidence and, naturally, there is great interest in what it shows. The bands play on: Digging the new outdoor music venues that popped up in New Orleans during the pandemic? Looks like they might be hanging around a bit longer -- but it'll take a City Council vote. Hope you enjoyed Lunch Line today. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
