View in browser | hyperallergic.comMarch 24, 2020Letter from the editor: First, some good news, as I know we can use it: Hyperallergic's film reviews will be listed on Rotten Tomatoes! Why is that important? Not only because we love the useful rating service, which helps sift through the overwhelming number of terrible films to find the gems, but also because for smaller films (which we often review) the aggregating service can be crucial to their success or failure. Yesterday, we also published a report on why many independent publishers are giving up Amazon to use Bookshop, a new service that shares 75% of book sales with publishers (far more than Amazon). We also announced this week that Hyperallergic will now use Bookshop links whenever possible going forward. We continue to report on the impact of COVID-19, and reporter Valentina di Liscia is updating the growing list of news every day. For instance, on Monday, earthquakes in Croatia destroyed a number of buildings, including one of the spires of Zagreb’s cathedral, all in the midst of a coronavirus lockdown in the capital. All upcoming festivals and fairs have likewise been cancelled, including Frieze New York, Cannes Film Festival, the 13th Manifesta, and the European Fine Art Fair's New York fair. Check in daily for updates. We also discuss these issues and more on our latest podcast, and we'll be working on another episode with more updates this week. And since social distancing is the name of the game for many of us, Valentina also wrote about artists whose work thrived as a result of their involuntary isolation. A good reminder that there is always hope even when we're left alone in our homes. We hope you and your loved ones will stay safe and healthy during these trying times, and always feel free to drop us a line (by responding to this email) to let us know how you're doing.
