Craft Beautiful Bracelets with Wire–Weaving Techniques
Create a variety of distinct designs as you learn to weave textural custom bracelets! In this class, I'll help you master two essential weaves and open the door to endless design possibilities. Before we start weaving, I'll introduce you to our materials, and reveal which types of wire work best for beginners. You'll also discover the simple, versatile figure–8 weave, and learn how to prevent kinked and knotted wire. Next, I'll guide you through the modified soumak weave. Follow along with me to achieve a tight, consistent weave, and bring a striking mixed–metal bangle to life! You'll also find out how to fix broken weaving wire, and learn how to shape the ends of your bracelet for a polished finish.
Then, step up your skill set with a lesson on creating free–moving clasps! I'll show you how to work with pliers and thicker–gauge wire to make an articulated clasp with crisp angles, and demonstrate a hammering technique to finish your ends. We'll create a hook–and–eye closure with simple steps, and learn how to bevel the ends for a perfect fit.
Begin another lovely bracelet in our next lesson, as we learn two– and five–base variations of the soumak weave. I'll share a sophisticated sizing technique, and guide you step by step as we shape two woven–wire bands into waves. And, you'll gain confidence with more complex designs as we incorporate thicker, textured wire to enhance this multidimensional accessory.
