The Front Page: The incessant pandemic, a police officer's long road home, enforcing the rules

By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor

INCESSANT: We're 532 days into the coronavirus pandemic and still setting records. As Louisiana's largest hospital company announced a vaccine mandate for employees, the state marked its single deadliest day for COVID-19. Thousands of students, teachers and school staff are quarantining at home because of exposure to the virus.

On Wednesday at 10 a.m., watch a panel of panel of three physicians take questions from NOLA.com readers about the pandemic, the vaccine and conditions inside hospitals.

LONG ROAD HOME: Dozens of New Orleans police stood outside a 7th Ward funeral home Tuesday to receive detective Everett Briscoe. It made for a solemn tribute to an officer who was shot dead three days earlier while on vacation in Houston. The reward for information about his killer has climbed to $100,000.

Briscoe will lie in state Friday at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. The funeral is scheduled Saturday at Xavier University.

MAKING A LIST: Enforcement of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's new COVID rules was supposed to begin this week, but so far City Hall has received only 19 complaints about businesses not complying. None has been cited.

You'll find these stories and more in Front Page and on NOLA.com. Thanks for starting your day with us.
