| Budget 2020: Additional S$33bn to help Singapore businesses and workers tide over COVID-19 | Singapore just announced its fourth fiscal package in less than four months. This time round, S$33 billion will be set aside to support Singaporeans and businesses here, with a central focus on jobs. This brings the country’s war chest to fight against the pandemic to nearly S$100 billion, or close to 20 per cent of its GDP. | Initiatives for businesses are on three fronts: | | Help with cashflow: The Jobs Support Scheme to subsidise wages for local employees will be extended by one more month, to August. More companies will be eligible to receive higher subsidies of up to 75 per cent. |
| | Reducing business costs: To help alleviate costs, businesses in public non-residential properties will qualify for additional rental waivers. Commercial tenants will receive two additional months’ worth of support, while industrial, office, and agricultural tenants will get one more month of rental waiver. |
| | Extending more credit: S$285 million has been allocated to help promising startups gain better access to credit and sustain their innovation and entrepreneurship activities. |
