The Penobscot County courthouse that was closed due to mold has no timeline for reopening. Maine law mandates a district court in Newport to serve western Penobscot County. Without it people have to drive to Bangor for court business.

A Maine brewer is eyeing a run against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins as Democrats seek options. Dan Kleban confirmed the party reached out to him to consider a Senate bid after the Bangor Daily News mentioned him in April as a potential gubernatorial candidate.

These housing reforms are moving forward in the Maine Legislature. Lawmakers are still wrestling with conflicts between their efforts to address the housing crisis and the tradition of local control that leaves policies to cities and towns.

A Republican proposal would raise Bowdoin College’s taxes by millions. Bowdoin is the only Maine school likely to be affected by the tax increase, which is part of the larger piece of legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Bangor appointed a city manager to serve for two weeks. Courtney O’Donnell will cover the gap between the retirement of the city's current manager and the start of her replacement.
