Climate change could lead to permanent locations hosting the Winter Olympics on a rotating basis in the future. This could allow Salt Lake City to host more than just the 2034 Winter Games it is a front-runner for, but the International Olympic Committee will likely wait a decade before making a decision on permanent hosts. “We have to think of the constraints of the climate change. This will be a great challenge for us, which partner for the future will be reliable to organize Winter Games,” Austrian IOC member Karl Stoss, chairman of the Future Host Commission, said while visiting Utah this month. |

| Senate candidate Brent Hatch, who is running for Sen. Mitt Romney's seat, failed to collect enough signatures to qualify for the Republican primary. The son of former Sen. Orrin Hatch was nearly 7,000 signatures short as of the 5 p.m. deadline Friday. He can still make it onto the primary ballot if he receives more than 40% of the delegates' votes at Saturday's GOP state convention. “I have been working hard for months meeting with delegates up-and-down the state,” he told the Deseret News. “My focus from day one has been on the delegates and doing well at the convention on Saturday. That has not changed. I am touched by the overwhelming support I have received from the delegates so far and expect to do extremely well at the convention.” Read more about Utah's senate race.
