The veto list: Gov. John Bel Edwards vetoed 25 bills that came out of the most recent legislative session, including several aimed at LGBTQ+ identity. James Finn has the list here, and whether it means there could be an override session in response.
Where the wildflowers grow: Not in a Metairie yard, if Jefferson Parish's rules about weeds and grass have anything to say about it. One couple found that out recently after they created a native plant garden at their house and had a neighbor complain about it. Marie Fazio has the story.
Clean zone disputed: The organizers of the Essence Festival have dropped their request for cease-and-desist order against a local Black-owned bookstore for holding an event in the Marigny during the festival. It has left in place legal action taken against the publicist for the store's event, but the dust up once again puts a spotlight on so-called clean zone ordinances, which seek to curtail activities surrounding mega events like the Super Bowl or NCAA championships.
