Correction: WHO advice for international traffic in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (B.1.1.529)

Regarding the WHO advice for international traffic in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) issued by WHO earlier today, 30 November, please note that the final sentence of the text is being updated.

The current version reads:

Persons who are unwell or at risk of developing severe COVID-19 disease and dying, including people 60 years of age or older or those with comorbidities (e.g. heart disease, cancer and diabetes), should be advised to postpone travel.

This will be updated to:

Persons who have not been fully vaccinated or do not have proof of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and are at increased risk of developing severe disease and dying, including people 60 years of age or older or those with comorbidities that present increased risk of severe COVID-19 (e.g. heart disease, cancer and diabetes) should be advised to postpone travel to areas with community transmission.

This change will help ensure consistency with previous travel advice issued by WHO in July 2021: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/WHO-2019-nCoV-Risk-based-international-travel-2021.1

WHO is working to reflect this update on its website, however, this may not occur until tomorrow, 1 December.
