Heel-face turn: High school wrestling champ takes out the trash Everyday acts of heroism can seem rare in times like these, but there are still plenty of people out in the world who help others. Just ask Canaan Bower, a champion wrestler at a New Mexico high school, who apprehended a kidnapper as he attempted to take three children right in front of their mother. The family had just gotten off a city bus and were confronted by the suspect, who snatched the two-year-old from its mother’s arms and demanded the others go with him. The suspect threw punches at the mother and several onlookers, and the woman fled with her kids into a nearby gas station. That’s when Canaan decided to take action and got out of his truck to confront the kidnapper. Inside the gas station, he slammed the kidnapper to the ground and held him in a chokehold until the police arrived. The woman and her kids were safe, and the champ was hailed as a hero. Despite his athletic status, the suspect was probably pretty embarrassed to get chokeslammed by a kid almost ten years his junior. Wrestlers are heroes to kids all over the country.
