After all, we are looking at billions in borrowing for furloughs, business loans, NHS funding and the rest, which will almost certainly mean we are heading into a massive recession in the months to come. The faster we can re-open shops and businesses, the more likely we lessen the impact. However, there has been much talk in our house in the past weeks about the need for a new Government position - the Minister of Thinking it Through. A few examples: While it is great to ask people who cannot work from home to return, there is much which needs to go on in advance to make it happen - transportation rules; workplace safety and schools re-opening for starters. Likewise the talk of re-starting the football season at neutral grounds. That is not going to stop thousands of people heading out on the street if their team wins the league or the play-offs. A Minister for Thinking it Through would see this in advance and avoid the spread of confusion and fear. Just a thought for Mr Johnson to consider. If you have any thoughts you want to share with me, you can email me at [email protected] Until next time, stay safe. Gillian Parkinson Editor | |
