The Dumbest Question in Interview History Dear John, Happy President's Day Weekend! I hope you're able to enjoy the long weekend. I am. I took my family to a beach resort for a couple of days but I'm still putting in the work - you can see the video I recorded from the beach on today's episode of The Dave Lorenzo Daily. When I decided to write my great new book The 60 Second Sale, I was discussing promotional ideas with my agents. Talk show segment topics were being bandied around and one of them suggested I go on various shows and "sell the host a pen" just like in the movie Wolf of Wall Street. I balked at the idea because selling a pen is a transaction and my system - the one I outline in the book - is about developing relationships. The agents pushed back and they said it was a slam dunk to get me on The Steve Harvey Show (they represented him also) if I agreed to do it. I said "no" and I told them we would need to keep working on some ideas. Well, you'd think this would have focused them on something I wanted to do - given that I was the client. It didn't. About one month later, I saw a clip of one of their other clients selling Steve Harvey a pen on a live show. Those guys loved THAT IDEA more than they loved having a RELATIONSHIP with me. This week, for fun and to see if I cold dominate YouTube and Google rankings, I made a video titled: Convince Me to Buy This Pen If you search YouTube with that title, it's already the number 1 video. But when you watch the video you'll notice something shocking. I'm not going to give away the punchline but rest assured, I don't compromise my relationship-focused values in teaching you how to sell a pen. You need to watch the video especially if you're a lawyer, a CPA or an entrepreneur. Substitute your service for the pen. Figure out if you are building relationships or trying to complete a transaction. If you want to be transactional, I can introduce you to a media agency that knows something about that. If you're interested in building relationships that deliver mutual value, stick with me. That's what I teach. Be sure to like and share a few videos while you're on my YouTube channel. And while you're there, please subscribe. This is the place for great relationship-based business development content. Don't miss out: http://DaveLorenzo.link/YouTube Have a great weekend!
