Continuity Insights Management Conference Wraps Up Three-Day Event Focus on Strategies for the Ultimate Resilient Organization Penns Park, PA: Continuity Insights recently concluded its 2017 Management Conference at the Marriott Denver City Center, Denver, Colorado, featuring more than 55 sessions focusing on strategies for the ultimate resilient organization. The 15th annual conference attracted more than 475 attendees, industry experts, thought leaders, and vendor representatives. Conferees exchanged insights and ideas on critical issues affecting both veteran business continuity practitioners and professionals coming up through the ranks. Session tracks dedicated to case studies, emerging issues, professional development, program development & advancement, measurement/metrics/maturity, trending topics, and "ask the experts" panel discussions provided attendees with lessons learned and key takeaways from experienced business continuity professionals responsible for the integrity, availability, resilience, and security of their organizations. The event also featured presentations by three keynote speakers. Dr. Andrew Pena, SPHR, MBA, Assistant Vice-President for Human Resources, New Mexico State University, kicked-off the conference with "Institutional Knowledge! When Good Employees Leave, What Do We Really Lose and How Do We Retain It?" Every day when a good employee leaves they take with them a very valuable asset - their institutional knowledge or memory. As a result, a substantial amount of work, business, and operational knowledge will be difficult to replace or duplicate if internal systems to retain or document this type of knowledge are non-existent. Dr. Pena shared his experience and insights on this increasingly crucial topic. Stephen Williger, Esq., a partner in the Business Litigation practice group of Thompson Hine LLC reviewed "Legal Aspects of Corporate Crisis Management." His presentation dealt specifically with the legal aspects of pre-crisis planning, mitigation, remediation, and recovery, explaining the critical considerations in clear language for practitioners of all levels and experience. Robert C. Chandler, Ph.D., Professor of Communication, Lipscomb University declared that leadership is the most influential and critical element of successfully managing a contingency or crisis, yet many executives and managers remain ill-prepared to function as good leaders during these urgent situations. He called attention to those who choose to do the right things even at the most difficult times with his presentation "When Doing the Right Thing is the Right Thing to Do: Models of Good Contingency Management Leadership." He reviewed the marks and traits of positive leadership which apply at the executive level down through localized managers. All those in attendance took a much-deserved break from the intense learning experience to have some fun and unwind during "A Night on the Lanes," where the gathering participated in a spirited bowling tournament, and played billiards, ping pong, and shuffleboard, or simply took a breather while relaxing with their colleagues.
