Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Responding to Democrats’ Voting Rights Rhetoric As Democrats continued their disingenuous push for election reform, I took to the Senate floor to set the record straight on voting rights, the Georgia election law, and the meaning of “Jim Crow.” As a Black man who has voted in the south all my life, I take voting rights very seriously. That’s why I could not sit idly by as President Biden and others on the left used divisive rhetoric to hearken back to such a dark—and distant—time in our nation’s history. Watch my full response from the Senate floor: Click to watch A Conversation on Racial Progress President Biden painted a misleading and dismal picture of race in America. I’m taking a different approach—meeting with local Black leaders to discuss real solutions to issues facing the Black community. Our discussion centered on how to spur economic development and bolster education in minority communities. Click below for highlights! Click to watch I believe that elected officials often hear too much from other folks in Washington and not enough from the people they serve. That’s why I have begun a South Carolina “listening tour” to meet with folks across the state and learn how to better serve their needs. Fighting Fraud Against Seniors Throughout the pandemic, there has been a heartbreaking increase in financial fraud against our nation’s seniors. As ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, I have been working to combat these heinous crimes and protect older Americans. Earlier this year, I released a fraud report and held a hearing on fraud and scams, along with Chairman Casey (D-Pa.). This week, I joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues in introducing a bill to equip states to investigate and prosecute these crimes. No senior should have to worry about financial fraud in their golden years. Click here for more information about the new bill. Sincerely, |
