Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Combating the Fentanyl Epidemic This week, the FEND Off Fentanyl Act, my legislation to combat the fentanyl crisis in South Carolina and across the country, advanced closer to becoming law. Mexican traffickers and Chinese drug suppliers are fueling America’s fentanyl crisis. My FEND Off Fentanyl Act targets the financial assets of these criminal groups, cutting off their income right at the source. By advancing this critical piece of legislation, we’re one step closer to ensuring our country can defend our communities from this deadly drug and protect our national security. Read more about my legislation here. Standing Against Chinese Aggression and Strengthening Ties with Taiwan This week, the Senate passed a bill to approve the first trade agreement signed under the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade. Bolstering our partnership with Taiwan sends an important message that we value Taiwan’s commitment to freedom and democracy and the United States sees them as a reliable partner in promoting those values across the Indo-Pacific. This agreement not only strengthens our trade relationship with Taiwan, benefitingAmerican job creators, but stands strong in the face of growing Chinese aggression in the region and around the world. Intern With My Office I am now accepting applications for internships in my Washington, D.C., North Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville offices for the Fall of 2023. Every year, young people from South Carolina and around the country have the opportunity to get involved in their government by interning in one of my offices. The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to work with public service professionals and gain practical experience in constituent services, government policy, and more. Students of all majors, particularly those studying governmental affairs, public policy, or communications, are welcome to apply. Learn more internship opportunities here. Spilling the #SCSweetTea on South Carolina’s World-Renowned Destinations From the Low Country to the Upstate, South Carolinians have always known our great state is home to the most breathtaking, vibrant places in the world. That’s why it’s no surprise Travel + Leisure magazine once again named Charleston the No. 1 place to visit in the United States and even gave it a spot on the worldwide travel destinations list. I couldn’t be more proud to call this beautiful state home. Read more here. Sincerely, |
