California state legislators are considering a bill that will ban all plastic shopping bags by 2026. Thin plastic bags are already banned, but shoppers still have the option to buy thicker plastic bags at grocery stores — under the bill, these thicker plastic bags would be banned too.

It is the result of vote-seeking politicians looking to make a name for themselves. The grocers didn't ask for it, and the general population isn't asking for it, so the politicians are playing their games. This will result in people losing their jobs at bag manufacturers in California and other states, and at the same time increase imports of paper bags and non-recyclable polypropylene bags (just another word for plastics). It simply doesn't make any sense, neither financially nor environmentally! This is plain stupid.

It should be up to the customers ... the price of food is high and customers take advantage of the paper bags to use for recycling. Paper bags should be an extra charge. We keep running out.
