🚗 Top Maine Democrats want tighter federal car emission standards. ◉ Rep. Lori Gramlich, D-Old Orchard Beach, who co-chairs the Legislature's environment committee, joined Adam Lee of Lee Auto Malls and groups including Maine Conservation Voters and the Maine Public Health Association in a Wednesday call for a new round of stricter emission standards for vehicles. ◉ The Biden administration promulgated the strictest-ever rules in December 2021 for cars and light trucks in the 2023-2026 model years. Advocates want another round focused on the 2027-2035 years. ◉ "The potential cost savings, the cleaner air, and the benefits of addressing climate change make it imperative that the EPA move forward with stronger clean car standards as quickly as possible," said Lee, a Democratic donor who kicked the tires on a 2018 gubernatorial bid before deciding not to run. 🔭 An indicted lawmaker has not yet heeded a call to resign. ◉ After being indicted on 20 felony forgery counts related to alleged fraud on forms used to qualify for Maine's taxpayer-funded campaign system, newly elected Rep. Clinton Collamore, D-Waldoboro, has not resigned as of 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, House Clerk Robert Hunt said. ◉ That's despite a call from House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland, for Collamore to step down after his indictment was made public on Tuesday. She could convene the House Ethics panel to begin the process of removing Collamore, but there's no indication that has begun. |
