COLLEGE CLIFF: The 2008 recession could soon cripple Louisiana colleges and universities and many others across the United States. Because the birth rate plunged during the economic downturn, Louisiana expects to have 7.5% to 15% fewer college-age students come 2026. Here’s how one Louisiana higher education system is trying to adapt.

DWI ARRESTS DOWN: In another sign of how the police staffing crisis in New Orleans affects public safety, the Police Department arrested just 69 drunken drivers last year. That’s about the same as the total in the one month leading up to Mardi Gras in 2019.
