Did You Know: The Truth About Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Let’s get serious about reversing diabetes. As medical professionals, we all have seen studies showing that by reducing the intake of carbohydrates, we can reverse diabetes and, in most cases, without any drugs. The results from a low carbohydrate diet have been nothing short of spectacular. By reducing our consumption of carbs, we can not only reverse type 2 diabetes but also reduce our risk for cardiovascular disease and DEATH! The side benefits, besides weight loss, are reducing the risk for just about every disease known to man, including cancer. At the recent World Congress on Insulin Resistance, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular Disease, they presented the results of one more study showing the benefits of a low carb diet. The five-year study of 465 patients in its 4th year showed that with an intake of fewer than 50 grams of carbohydrates daily, or fewer than 10% of calories consumed, you could reverse type 2 diabetes and prevent the complications from diabetes. At the meeting, Dr. Sarah Hallberg presented preliminary results based on two years of data collection. At the end of 2 years, the retention rate was 74%, the mean HbA1c reduction was 0.9, the mean reduction for the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance was 32%, and 55% of completers experienced a reversal of their diabetes. For those on insulin, 91% of the insulin users reduced or eliminated their use of insulin and lost an average of 10% of baseline weight, and medications were reduced or eliminated by all the participants. So, you have to ask yourself, why do we still prescribe drugs with all kinds of side effects, including death, that cost hundreds of dollars a month when a change in diet could do more than any drug or combination of medications?
