Hi,
During Uber’s early explosive growth as a ride-hailing service, delivery was more of a side endeavor. But over the last year, Uber Eats has established itself as a core part of the business model.
According to projections from Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber Eats is on track to deliver $10 billion worth of food this year. It’s the second-largest food delivery service in the US, closing in quickly on Grubhub’s market dominance and larger than competitors Postmates, Caviar, and DoorDash.
But Eats still loses lots of money. And its newly public parent company is under increased pressure to demonstrate profitability after a disappointing IPO.
We’ll talk to the man leading the endeavor: VP of Uber Everything, Jason Droege. Droege has led the service since its creation in 2014 and has overseen its growth into a giant global business. We’ll ask him what it’s like leading this service in an ultra-competitive market and how he plans to make sure it differentiates itself enough to stick around.
