Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson has big shoes to fill.

In 2017, he succeeded the company’s charismatic CEO Howard Schultz, who built a regional chain into a global superbrand.

Johnson’s experience as a tech executive at Microsoft and Juniper Networks positions him to usher in a new era at Starbucks — one in which a customer’s digital experience is as important as their brick-and-mortar experience.

With its Deep Brew initiative, Starbucks is at the forefront of harnessing AI and machine learning companywide — from personalizing customer experience on the app and drive-thru screens to streamlining machine maintenance, inventory tracking, and supply chain management.
