Without bees, there would be worldwide, mass starvation. Their health and their abundance has been in jeopardy for years. I don't follow this issue closely, but I do make mental notes while I'm out gardening.

My cherry tomatoes are getting ripe and I plan to make tomato juice and put it in the freezer. I am enjoying snacking on these sweet cherry tomatoes. The skins are tough so I have to remove that from my mouth after chewing on it.

Using a Linoleum Knife to Edge Grass
By lalala...
I learned to use a linoleum knife in the garden from my mother, who had learned it from her father. It is a handy tool for grass edging, weed removal, digging rocks out, and many other things. It makes quick work out of even the weediest garden. You definitely need to give it a try!

Preventing Mud Under Outdoor Faucet
By lalala...
I got tired of the constant mud puddle under our faucet. Between watering our yard and maintaining our ducks' pen, we have the water on a lot. So my husband created this awesome little gravel pad under the faucet. It is perfect for preventing the mud puddles. It is also a great place to rinse off boots.

The Eastern Cicada Killer Wasp, Sphecius speciosus, is said to be a solitary animal. That may be, but they sure don't mind close neighbors. My lawn is becoming riddled with their nests. They are considered beneficial in that they help keep the cicada population in check, thereby greatly reducing damage done to deciduous trees.

This is my tip for to get large elephant ears. You can get the rhizomes (large seed). The mammoth rhizomes are approximately 3 to 5 inches round. They must be kept dry and at room temp. until ready to plant. The time to plant is late spring.height of 6 feet.

Blooming Bonnets. Last summer just after Easter I purchased a dozen little straw hats just the size for dolls from a sale rack. They were just drab straw colored so I decided to paint them.

This Week's QuestionsPlant Similar to Tractor Seat Plant for a Sunnier LocationI think this plant is beautiful. Unfortunately, where I would like to put the plant gets too much sun. Can you recommend something else, similar, to put in two large pots?Saving an Underwatered Christmas CactusI stopped watering my Christmas cactus for a long time (a couple of months?) and now the leaves are dark red and it isn't growing. Is there any hope that it is still alive?Keeping Doves Away from Bird FeedersI have doves eating all my birdseed. I tried a squirt gun, I tried not feeding the birds for a couple of weeks. As soon as I put seed back out it didn't take long for them to come back. I love birds, but I would like the smaller ones to eat too. How do I get rid of doves?Huskee LT 4200 Riding Mower Won't StartI was trying to start a friend's Huskee LT 4200 riding mower that I've only ridden twice. I followed the starting instructions on the mower and it won't even make any startup noise. It's gas tank isn't empty.Identifying Insect EggsMy vegetable plants have been very healthy overall and I check them every day for aphids, spider mites, etc. One day one plant had two or three of these little egg sacs? They look kind of like dead bits of a tapeworm parasite that has fallen off a dog or a cat. They are stuck on the top of the leaf pretty tightly.Accidental Tomato Garden Where Dogs PottyMy backyard has, through no effort on my part, yielded a giant tomato plant. There are tons of healthy tomatoes. However, my dogs go to the bathroom out there (probably why it grew). If I wash thoroughly, are the tomatoes safe to eat?ThriftyFun Contests! This newsletter is powered by you! Below are the active contests on ThriftyFun...
