Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its third publication of the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) based Medicaid Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Data Book to help policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders better understand where to focus drug prevention and treatment efforts. The data book contains 2019 data on Medicaid beneficiaries treated for SUD, and the services they received by type and setting, delivery system, and progression of care. This Data Book is published annually in accordance with the requirements of the Substance UseDisorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act) that was passed into law by Congress in 2018. Key findings contained in the 2019 data book reveal the following: The percentage of Medicaid beneficiaries treated for any SUD and those treated for an Opioid Use Disorder increased between 2018 and 2019 (8.2% to 8.4%, and 2.5% to 2.8%, respectively) The percentage of Medicaid beneficiaries treated for a SUD who received Medication-Assisted Treatment increased from about one-quarter (24%) to on- third (32%) between 2018 and 2019 Fewer Medicaid beneficiaries treated for a SUD received emergency services or received treatment in an inpatient setting in 2019 compared to 2018 Learn more here:https://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid/data-systems/downloads/2019-sud-data-book.pdf |
