Nuisance businesses: The City Council is looking at shuttering businesses that repeatedly play host to drug use, stolen property and violence under a proposed “padlock” ordinance it will consider later this week. Repeat offenders would have to address their problems or risk $500 a day in fines and possible closure. Matt Sledge has the story. Mardi Gras: The proverbial beans were spilled last week, but Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other officials held a press conference Monday to celebrate the fact that Carnival parades will roll on their normal routes, not the shortened ones from last year. The return to normality is made possible by a police force beefed up by law enforcement officers from across the state. There is one wrinkle with Krewe du Vieux, however, and Doug MacCash has all the details. In Jefferson Parish, Blake Patterson has the rundown of the Family Gras line-up that was just announced. Protesting police brutality: Monday night saw about 70 protesters gather downtown to march against police brutality, one of many demonstrations around the country in response to the fatal beating death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis. Missy Wilkinson has the story. Thank you for starting your day with Morning Headlines. Stay up to date with the latest news all day on NOLA.com. Chad |
