At the most recent board meeting, the board set the framework for the day. In addition to announcing the winner of this yearâs ð photo competition, electing three new board members, and approving the annual accounts, participants will also celebrate CISUâs 30th anniversary. You can announce your candidacy right up to the day itself, but if you do so before April 8, a short presentation will be included in the General Assembly materials. At the General Assembly, CISU member organizations can submit proposals that contribute to CISUâs development, member engagement, efficiency, or other relevant areas. Small Programme Applications for 95 Million DKK
By the application deadline on 5 March for the so-called 'Small Programmes' under the Civil Society Fund, a total of 29 applications had been received amounting to approximately 95 million DKK for 2025.
Approximately 63 million DKK has been allocated to 'Small Programmes' in 2025, distributed over two rounds. This means that several applicants can expect to receive a rejection.
- It is too early to say how many deserving small programmes will not receive funding, but the total amount applied for shows that there is strong demand for this type of support, says fund manager Iben Westergaard Rasmussen.
For the Neighbourhood Fund, 15 applications were submitted for a total of approximately 47 million DKK. Five of the applications concern 'Resilience and Democratic Development in Ukraine', while the remaining ten focus on development efforts throughout the entire neighbourhood region.
- We are pleased with the strong interest in the Neighbourhood Fund and look forward to following the initiatives in the region over the coming years,â says fund manager Iben Westergaard Rasmussen.
Approximately 36 million DKK is available for allocation under the Neighbourhood Fund in 2025.
30 Project Applications Granted
The project applications submitted for the 29 January application round have now been reviewed.
In the category 'Small Projects', 10 have received grants totalling 1.5 million DKK, while 14 were rejected. Of these, eight were assessed as deserving support.
In the category 'Large Projects', the result was 14 grants totalling nine million DKK. There were 18 rejections, but none were deemed deserving due to the additional grant of 30 million DKK mentioned in the previous newsletter.
The Neighbourhood Fund had six approved applications totalling 2.7 million DKK. There were three rejections.
Study Highlights Local Leadership in Civil Society Support
The four Danish civil society funding pools â CISU, DUF, CKU, and DH â have joined forces to explore how local leadership can best be promoted in international partnerships and civil society initiatives.
More than 270 organizations from around the world have contributed to the joint study through survey responses and qualitative interviews.
â Weâve gained a unique insight into how local actors perceive both opportunities and challenges in advancing local leadership, says advisor Rikke Sig from CISU.
The study also examined how the Danish funding mechanisms can better support local ownership in the partnerships they fund.
The results will be presented at an event on April 7 from 14:00 to 16:00 at Kosmopol in Copenhagen.
The program includes a presentation of key findings and recommendations, along with talks from partners sharing practical experiences.
The event will conclude with an exchange of experiences and networking with other organizations.

Learn How to Collaborate with Foundations At the course âCollaborating with Danish Foundationsâ on March 31, participants will gain insights into the processâfrom strategy development and identifying the right foundations to making contact and submitting applications.
