New IoT Gateways, Cloud Support for BeagleBone, Data Sensing for Smart Factories, and another raffle for free merchandise!
| Circuit Cellar's ongoing mission is to provide important information to help you make smart choices with your engineering projects; from prototype to production. As part of that effort, we're now offering weekly themed newsletter content that focuses on critical areas of system development. Our new, enhanced weekly Circuit Cellar Newsletter will cover these four areas each month: Microcontroller Watch | IoT Technology Focus | Embedded Boards | Analog & Power Your feedback is always welcome. - Jeff Child ([email protected]) ____________________________________________________________________________ IoT Technology Focus The Internet-of-Things (IoT) phenomenon is rich with opportunity. This newsletter tackles news, trends and products related to the building of IoT implementations, and devices. DIN-Rail Industrial IoT Gateway is Ultra-Compact Axiomtek has launched its newest RISC-based fanless DIN-rail IIoT gateway, the IFB112. The fanless IIoT gateway supports the low-power consumption NXP (Freescale) i.MX6UL ARM Cortex-A7 528 MHz System-on-Chip (SoC). The gateway controller with IP30-rated aluminum and steel enclosure supports an extended operating temperature ranging from -40°C to 70°C, a wide voltage range of 9 V to 48 V DC power input with terminal block, and has been designed to withstand vibration up to 5G. For system integrators with wireless communication needs, the IFB112 has one PCI Express mini card slot, one SIM card slot, and two internal antennas. The DIN-rail fanless gateway comes with one 256 MB DDR3 on-board memory and one 4GB eMMC flash memory for storage. The compact system is designed with 31 mm x 100 mm x 125 mm in size and has rich I/O connections including one RS-232/422/485 port, two 10/100 Mbps LAN ports, one USB 2.0 port, one CAN-bus port and one digital I/O (2-IN/1-OUT). Data Sensing Solution Targets Smart Factory Advantech has introduced its EtherIO technology designed to enable real-time sensing for machine automation, predictive maintenance, equipment monitoring, and optimization, production traceability, rapid quality feedback, and factory environment monitoring applications. EtherIO is a new Ethernet-based I/O technology developed by Advantech to provide a cost-effective alternative to using fieldbus-based solutions for real-time data collection. EtherIO technology not only transforms standard LAN ports into dedicated real-time I/O ports, but also consumes less than 10% of CPU processing resources, allowing users to leverage the computing power of existing systems for real-time I/O. In other words, EtherIO provides an immediate solution that does not require additional expensive infrastructure and can be flexibly integrated with legacy equipment and systems. CONTINUE READING
IoT Gateway Sports Intel Atom E3800 SoC Processor WIN Enterprises has announced the WIN IoT-380 Gateway, an entry-level embedded IoT device designed for device control and the streaming of data from sensors and components deployed on a manufacturing line. Communications are via wired or wireless links to back-end servers located at the network's edge. The edge servers are used for more comprehensive analytics, data aggregation and filtering, and issuing M2M or human alerts and so on. These back-end servers, in turn, pass filtered data to a cloud-based server for additional analytics, reporting, and archiving. These four technology layers create an integrated IIoT system for more efficient manufacturing. The WIN IoT-380 is a production line gateway that interfaces with sensors and actuators on the manufacturing line and an edge gateway that is used to further refine data and pass it on to a cloud-based server for storage and further analytics.
