BusinessWire is predicting the global smart cities markets will grow substantially in the period from 2023 until 2028, into the low trillions, somewhere over $3.1 trillion.

The markets for IoT microcontrollers is developing into a wide ranging market within the overall market for IoT technology. CAGR of 12.6% over the period 2023 to 2030 is likely bringing total market share to $9.8 billion.

The smart city and IoT microcontroller markets are intimately entwined, you need the microcontrollers to run the IoT devices. There seems to be evidence

the microcontroller market will outpace the microprocessor market, which predictions had been the other way around. The IoT microcontroller coming into the market, are faster, compute better, and are much more cost-effective than the microprocessors. Time will decide on this issue.
