In the world of edge computing, high performance in nodes is key to running large amounts of data through the IoT systems, from hundreds of sensors in any given EV to the factory floor of the future, a portable edge computer, that is high-performance and small enough to fit in a car, is a real feat of engineering. Eurotech seems to have accomplished this with DynaCOR 40-36.

ABB Unveils the i-Bus, KNX, Whole Smart Building Automation

The smart city is becoming more and more of a reality, and with it comes IoT device-orientated smart buildings. For larger residential and office buildings the ABB i-Bus system is a one-source IoT technology that works like the brains of each part of a building. For residential users, a mobile device can be attached, and the home system can regulate appliance usage and help in electricity shifting, a major way to reduce carbon emissions. A new way to interact with our world.

IoT Devices and The Future of Automation

Hello, Circuit Cellar fans, this is, as I and many others say, the year of IoT, and IIoT. The Industrial Internet of Things is becoming a solid part of warehousing and manufacturing at many levels. From Automatic Guided Vehicles to the automated picking of parts for almost any kind of device, IoT is building the businesses of the future. The best way to show this change is through the big companies, where it is the easiest to see the change because it is a vast reworking of systems.

The giant among automated systems is Amazon. While the latest, and newest IoT technology is being developed in smaller companies, the IIoT developed in Amazon distribution centers is definitely cementing in the process of warehousing, shipping and receiving in a way that would warrant competitors to follow their lead.

The system of robot vehicles, AGVs, which climb shelves on rails, and move about the floor of the distribution center by following guides, are all run by IoT routines built of specific sensors and codes on boxes. People are still necessary to maintain the systems, but many of the vehicles running about in an Amazon warehouse are autonomous.

Intel, the chip and processor manufacturer, is a leading source of what is being called the connected world. They are building huge chip manufacturing complexes in Ohio, USA, and Germany to the tune of 88 billion dollars. These connected campuses will use IoT devices and technologies to produce vast amounts of technological equipment that will fuel a change in supply chains, manufacturing, and carbon-neutral products on a global scale.
