| IoT System Monitors Water Quality in French Polynesia
Kontron, along with teams from Assystem Pacific, Bioceanor and Easy Global Market (EGM), are installing intelligent systems to monitor water quality in the Pacific Ocean. They are working together under the leadership of System Factory, the Cluster 4.0 for France's "Region Sud", dedicated to the engineering of complex systems. These systems, set up at the Centre de Recherches Insulaires et Observatoire de l'Environnement (CRIOBE), aim to measure the physico-chemical parameters of the water in the Opunohu lagoon in Moorea and monitor its pollution. Connected buoys developed by Bioceanor in collaboration with EGM now make it possible to monitor the environment of coral reefs using data collected in real time. Monitored parameters include temperature, salinity, turbidity and even certain pollutants. A box PC developed by Kontron acts as both a LoRaWAN-compatible IoT gateway and a network server. It converts the status information sent by these sensors into MQTT streams and enables continuous secure retrieval and remote analysis of this data. Assystem Pacifique and Easy Global Market teams integrated this networked LoRa system.
Cutting-Edge Embedded Vision Solutions
Clarius Mobile Health revolutionized ultrasounds. And Xilinx's technology helped get them there. The company's IoT- connected, portable ultrasound machine leveraged Xilinx's Zynq programmable System-on-Chip (SoC) solution.
Avnet connected Clarius Mobile Health to Xilinx's technology---some of which wasn't even on the shelves yet.
NB-IoT Module is Ready for 3GPP Rel 14 and 5G U-blox has announced the SARA-N3, a multi-band NB-IoT module that supports a preliminary set of 3GPP Release 14 features (LTE Cat NB2). The SARA-N3 is available in two variants: one dedicated to China and another that can operate across multiple bands on any NB-IoT network globally. The U-blox firmware-over-the-air (uFOTA) client/server solution with Lightweight M2M (LwM2M) allows SARA-N3 to be remotely provisioned with additional features. LwM2M is a more lightweight solution as compared to OMA-DM. That makes it well suited for providing critical firmware updates to IoT devices. In this way, SARA-N3 can ultimately become 5G compliant. SARA-N3 also supports the creation of dynamic LwM2M objects. That enables users to do feature customization by scripting their own configurable objects.
The SARA-N3 provides a comprehensive set of features and protocols that NB-IoT-based applications will benefit from, including TCP, HTTPS, CoAP, DTLS and MQTT. With its ultra-low power consumption profile and the ability to configure voltage domains, the module is optimized to operate on a single cell primary battery for 10+ years, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance visits.

IoT Wireless Sensor Nodes Target LPWAN Deployments Advantech has released its WISE-4210 series of IoT wireless sensor products, including a wireless LPWAN-to-Ethernet AP and three wireless sensor nodes. The nodes include tthe WISE-4210-S231 internal temperature and humidity sensor (shown), WISE-4210-S251 sensor node with 6-channel digital input and a serial port and WISE-4210-S214 sensor node with 4-channel analog input and 4- channel digital input. The complete device-to-cloud solution provided by this series of LPWAN products allows IT, OT and cloud platform system developers to easily implement a private LPWAN, acquire field site data and achieve seamless integration with both public cloud, such as Microsoft Azure and private enterprise clouds.
Based on proprietary LPWAN technology, the new WISE-4210 series products minimize frequency band interference, support a wider data transmission range, are compatible with lithium batteries and enable cloud platform integration. By locking the sub-GHz frequency band, WISE-4210 series products significantly reduce susceptibility to interference for 2.4 GHz wireless communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Zigbee. |
