She had a large litter of kittens, all of whom my kids would have happily adopted. Somewhat grudgingly, they were persuaded to settle for one beautiful, little tabby-colored creature. Being a new kitten, he came to us without a name. The search was on to find something suitable. We decided to wait a few days before deciding. There was no rush, and this would give us a chance to observe the kitten’s nature and come up with something suitable. After a week, there was still no name that struck us as appropriate. The kitten seemed to be a fairly calm creature with no obvious character flaws. There were lots of unsolicited suggestions, but none that seemed to be particularly obvious choices. The rest of the family decided to give our son the honor of naming the cat. It seemed to have taken a special liking to him. As it turned out, none of us was happy with his decision. Roosta didn’t seem to be a suitable name for a cat, but we had agreed to let him choose. My son couldn’t explain why he chose that particular name. Perhaps it came from his interest in reggae music.
