| Christian author comes out swinging against SCOTUS draft opinion | Curated for you byCP Editors | Good afternoon! It's Monday, May 9, and today's headlines include Christian author Jen Hatmaker's public stance in support of Roe v. Wade, a Christian man in Iran who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for hosting a home church, and an interview with MomLife Today's Kirsten Watson. | Christian author Jen Hatmaker took to her blog last week to voice support for Roe v. Wade, saying the overturning of the 1973 Supreme Court judgment will cause "immediate, disproportionate harm," and "not just emotional harm; physical and legal harm." Hatmaker went on to say, "If this rabid energy was genuine if it had any integrity, it would come baked in with the fiercest and staunchest advocacy for free birth control, comprehensive sex education, maternal health care and paid maternity leave." Her statements come following the leak of a draft opinion by the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade and send the issue of abortion back to U.S. states to determine their abortion laws. | This is not the first time Hatmaker has made headlines. In 2016, she affirmed same-sex marriage, claiming that plenty of gay couples "are brothers and sisters in Christ" and that LGBT relationships can be holy. Anooshavan Avedian, 60, was sentenced along with two members of the house church, both of whom converted to Christianity, Human Rights Activists News Agency reported. Soori and Mohammadi reportedly received several non-custodial punishments, including a 10-year ban from membership in social and political groups, a two-year exile outside Tehran, a fine of approximately $2,000 (500 million rials), and they must regularly report to the offices of the Ministry of Intelligence. | | Our Freud-marinated culture | Christian author and apologist Robin Schumacher discusses Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, and why he believes Freud's misguided views on both faith and sexuality have, in turn, negatively influenced how people view sex today. "The progression from Freud’s original teachings to the point where we’ve come today is summed up perfectly by Carl Trueman in his book, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self, when he says: 'The self must be psychologized; psychology must then be sexualized; and sex must be politicized,'" Schumacher writes. Samuel Sey discusses why the pro-choice Left is far more damaging to mothers and notes there are four times more crisis pregnancy centers than Planned Parenthood locations. From supporting women suffering from domestic violence to offering free pregnancy tests, clothing, counseling, financial assistance and housing, these crisis pregnancy centers demonstrate the pro-life movement's commitment to mothers and babies, Sey asserts. | | Pastor says Satan uses self-doubt, insecurities to inhibit Christians' church lives | Life.Church Pastor Sam Marin recently preached a sermon during which he spoke about how many Christians struggle with self-doubt when it comes to their Bible knowledge and ability to lead a small group or pray aloud. During his "Facing Your Insecurities" message, Marin said other Christians experience self-doubt due to their past or current sins in their lives. The pastor explained, however, that "God knew exactly what he was doing when He made you" and encouraged the audience to practice "self-love" and recognize, "We are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago." Watch now. |
| | WATCH: NFL wife, mom of 7 talks slowing down | In this interview with The Christian Post, Kirsten Watson, the executive editor of MomLife Today, discusses the importance of "taking a breath." Watson, who is the wife of former NFL star Benjamin Watson, shares the inspiration behind her new book, Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who's Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap), and why it's important for all women to take a moment to slow down and reflect on all that God has given them. Watson cautions against a culture too focused on comparisons, saying, "When we do it on our own, we tend to become our own God … and that's tiring, I don't think it's sustainable. I think that's why there's burnout. … and that's why we do look to Instagram where everything looks perfect because we know in our heart of hearts that that's not really what's going on."
