  • The Trump administration slapped China with 104% tariffs, effective just after midnight today. In response, China will impose 84% tariffs on U.S. goods fat midnight tonight, up from the 34% previously announced. Global markets are down sharply this morning. JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon also said this morning he thinks a recession is a likely.

UAMPS Names Matt Hastings as Assistant General Manager and Managing Director of Planning

Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) announced that Matt Hastings has been appointed as the assistant general manager and managing director of planning. April 19 Great Salt Lake service project & Easter celebration

To raise awareness and work toward the restoration of the Great Salt Lake, LDS Earth Stewardship (LDSES) is collaborating with a variety of supporting community organizations to host a Great Salt Lake cleanup service project and Easter Celebration starting at 9 a.m. on April 19, 2025, at Great Salt Lake State Park.   The activity will include trash and invasive plant removal, complemented with Easter-themed fun and educational activities for kids and families.   • 1865 - Civil War Ends and the Black Hawk Indian War begins in Utah. It was the longest and most destructive conflict between pioneer immigrants and Native Americans in Utah History
  • 1866 - Ulysses S. Grant arrested for speeding in his buggy.
  • 1917 - Irene Morgan Kirkaldy is born. She defied a bus driver in 1944 who ordered her to give up her seat and move to the segregated back then kicked the sheriff when arrested. Her actions led to a SCOTUS decision that outlawed segregated seating on interstate bus lines. She was awarded the Freedom Medal by President Clinton who said she “took the first step on a journey that would change America forever”
