There's a lot of weird stuff for sale on Facebook Marketplace. It's not just old strollers, an elliptical that’s collected dust for three years and a gross couch. We're talking drugs and, well, adult things.

But if you can sift through the strange listings, lowball offers and folks who never respond, there are a lot of deals to be had — and money to be made, if you're the one selling.

Insider Monkey rounded up the five hottest-selling categories on Facebook Marketplace based on keyword search interest. Let's go through the list, and I've got pro tips to help you snag a good deal or make the most cash.

🏋️‍♀️ Fitness equipment: 11.13M searches

Bargain-priced fitness equipment may not be too good to be true. Many people don't know the actual value of what they have — or they need to dump it quickly because they're moving. That stuff is a pain to lug around. Either way, you win.

Selling? Give your gear a thorough once-over so you know what you're selling. For bigger equipment, include the manufacturer name and model number if possible. For weights and all the rest, take enough pictures to make the condition clear.

🏡 Rugs: 11.32M searches

Look for rugs with high-quality, natural fibers like wool, silk or cotton. They'll last the longest. If a listing doesn't include this information, ask the seller.

Selling? List the dimensions so you don't have to keep fielding that question. Include high-res photos from different angles; it'll help you sell it faster. Call out imperfections, like fraying and staining, and state whether the rug comes from a smoke- or pet-free home. (These are key phrases!)

👠 Shoes: 12.01M searches

Freshen up used shoes before wearing them. Replace the insoles if they're worn or dirty. Disinfect the insides of the shoes with spray or wipes. Baking soda and vinegar kill fungus in sneakers, and rubbing alcohol disinfects suede and leather.

Selling? Think of worn shoes like used cars; they depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot. If you wore the shoes once, list them for 50% of what you paid. Anything worn five times or more should be listed between 30% to 40% of their retail value, max.

📱 Phone accessories: 13.14M searches

Look for sellers who bundle phone accessories, like a few phone cases and a charger, to get the most savings. Oh, and stay away from used earbuds. Even if you find a great deal, remember they've been in someone else's ears.

Selling? Make sure the accessories you’re listing are for phones currently in use. Sorry, but you can toss the charger for that mid-2000s hot-pink RAZR. (I had one, too!)

🧸 Toys and games: 69.6M searches

I must say the obvious: Don't buy used stuffed animals on Facebook Marketplace. You have no idea where they've been or what bacteria or bugs they're carrying. Lego blocks are also tempting, but keep in mind they're the toughest to clean and disinfect.

Selling? Check the list of popular toys released around the holidays. Think Cabbage Patch Kids or Furbies back in the day. If you're selling a hot item or something similar, you'll get rid of them quickly and make top dollar.

Do you see that pink elephant? If you're a tech geek like me, you've probably heard of the term “AI hallucinations” — aka when chatbots make up things. How do the different bots fare? Meta's AI chatbot made up things 5% of the time, Google's chat hallucinated 27% of its answers, and ChatGPT hallucinated just 3%.

🏃 Keep on ruckin': If you've experimented with hot yoga and cold plunges, it's time to try the next fitness craze taking over Silicon Valley. “Rucking” is when you strap on a heavy backpack and go for a long walk or hike. Carrying extra weight increases your heart rate, helping you get a better workout without all the impact of running. I'm going to try this for sure!

The end of an error: Have you done it? Over half of single Americans admit to having checked up on their ex online, new research says — as did over 65% of married people. It’s natural to be curious, but be careful not to hit “like.” So embarrassing.

🌶️ ChatGPT, but spicy: Elon Musk's new AI chatbot, Grok, will soon be available to X Premium Plus subscribers. Musk says Grok, trained on real-time data from X, will "answer spicy questions" that other chatbots won't. Figures.

Swede dreams are made of this: A new study out of Sweden says kids under 2 should have absolutely zero screen time, and children between the ages of 2 to 5 should keep their screen time to no more than an hour a day. Yup, this includes TVs, tablets and cellphones. The research claims your kiddo spending less time staring at a screen is as good for them as eating vegetables and crossing the street safely. This is wise advice to pass along to friends and family.

🏝️ Want to take care of my private island? That’s what one mysterious billionaire is asking — and he’s paying nearly $200,000 for the job. The requirements? You and a partner would have to transform the site into a piece of paradise and record it all for TikTok. It’s in the Virgin Islands. Sign me up.

The simplest way to make sure someone can’t open a doc on your PC is to give that file a password. It only takes about a minute.

🔑 FYI, there's a difference between Office and Docs. For Office, a person can't open or view the file's content without a password. Docs does this, too, but it also encrypts files as they travel from your device to Google’s servers.

😂 When you're in a new relationship, you don't need a secure channel to talk to your partner. Communication is already encrypted.
