The five TV shows and movies I've been watching this week
If you’re reading this, it means you’re three newsletters deep into my What To Watch takeover, which means we’re friends now. We could be closer though.
To help speed up our journey to inseparable-best-friends-for-life, I’m going to be vulnerable and reveal everything I’ve been watching this past week — guilty pleasures included (if guilty pleasures were a thing, which they aren’t).
At lunch earlier I started watching The Beautiful Lie purely because I wanted to know what Succession star Sarah Snook ’s real accent sounded like. My verdict post-three seasons of hearing her pretend to be American is that her Australian accent feels wrong, but I’ll still finish the show, which is a reimagining of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina (very “love that saves and love that destroys” vibes). |

Last night I finally watched Eagle Vs Shark, a tale of two weird people doing weird things in New Zealand, and I already know it’s one of those movies I’m going to quote forever. Other reasons to watch it include: Jemaine Clement’s mullet, Loren Horsley’s aching awkwardness and the wallpaper in her character’s bathroom. Taika Waititi’s directorial debut is PG so kids could theoretically watch, but be warned there is some of the sex and other *adult* themes. |

And earlier this week I binged the frankly life-changing All My Friends Are Racist. Main characters Belle and Casey are young, flawed, fabulous and unafraid of calling their friends out as racist — in private, anyway. After their opinions get leaked to their friend circle, they get cancelled. So basically, this is a show for and about our times! I loved it so much because it made me reconsider some of the thinking patterns I’ve fallen into over the past few years. And I think you’ll love it for its honest, insightful, Blak, queer and gloriously sex-positive comedy. |

Fresh Meat was a recent “Oh! This thing I loved is on ABC iview!” moment for me. I first watched it when I was starting uni, so it’s been a fun and comforting slow rewatch over the past few weeks. That era of British TV is probably my favourite. ABC iview gods, if you’re listening, I’d also love for you to get The IT Crowd and The Mighty Boosh, tysm. |

My next recent watch/recommendation I’m sharing with you is an armadillo documentary. Yes, you read that correctly. |
