Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Chartering the way for Educational Opportunity President Biden’s administration recently announced a new rule to add burdensome and unnecessary requirements for public charter schools seeking funding. These rules will harm access to high quality schools for millions of students, take away choice from families, and give more power to unelected bureaucrats in Washington. With the Senate back in session this week, I introduced Congressional Review Act (CRA) legislation to fight against the president’s war on parents and charter schools. My legislation will nullify the Biden administration’s rules intended to make it more difficult for charter schools to receive funding. This in turn, will allow parents to choose innovative education options for their children to be successful in the classroom. As students work to rebuild from devastating learning loss, it is critical to give parents more educational options, not less. Read more about my bill here. Seeking Transparency for Alzheimer’s Research Recent allegations of fraud within federally-funded Alzheimer’s research have greatly concerned the scientific community. As ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, I know how much this research means to families across the nation. This week, I led a letter with Senators Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), urging the Biden administration’s Department of Health and Human Services to fully investigate and provide information on these troubling allegations. Ms. Williams is living proof that you are only as old as you feel. Estella has been an integral part of the Anderson community for years, ensuring that students make it to their classrooms safe and sound. After a month of retirement, she decided that she’d rather continue serving her community and helping the kids she loves. Join me in wishing her a happy un-retirement!
