May I have the Colorado Gives Day envelope, please?

Today is the day all of Colorado has been waiting for. Today we find out who the winner of Californian of the Year is.

This award goes to those instrumental in Colorado's decline towards the command-and-control state of California. It is important we recognize these smug, self-important elitists who know how others should live and believe government coercion is the best enticement.

And the nominees are:

Representatives Stephanie Vigil and Brianna Titone and Senators Faith Winter and Janice Marchman for their new law to force schools to keep children's gender transitions from their parents. After all, what do parents have to do with raising kids?

The Jefferson County Commissioners, US representative Brittany Petterson and her husband Ian Silveri for inside dealing to float hundreds of thousands of tax dollars into the Petterson family in “consulting” to scam voters to give up their TABOR refunds forever.

Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams for doing more than any single individual to elect Democrats in Colorado.

Representative Julie McCluskey and Senator Steve Fenberg for their law to exempt themselves from Colorado’s Open Meetings Act.

The Colorado Press Association for cheering on Representative Julie McCluskey and Senator Steve Fenberg as they exempted the legislature from the Open Meetings Act by giving these two their “Defenders of a Free Press award.”

The academy of the art of turning Colorado into California struggled greatly to choose a winner out of all these stars, because by Californian rules, there are no real winners or losers other than voters and taxpayers.

Yet the recognition must be awarded. And after the voting was tallied by Dominion voting machines, I am proud to announce the winner of the 2024 Californian of the year award is the power duo sitting atop the Colorado legislature.

Representative Julie McCluskey and Senator Steve Fenberg! Congratulations you two are the Californians of the Year! Your hard work to take away sunshine and transparency at the Colorado capitol takes home this year's prestigious award.

Prizes? Did you say prizes?

Today is Colorado Gives Day and if we can raise the following levels from your contributions, we can make sure all these Californians go home feeling like winners.

If we can raise $20,000, Representatives Stephanie Vigil and Brianna Titone with Senators Faith Winter and Janice Marchman will receive 1000 “hello my name is ______” name tags that they can give to students to change their names at school without parental notification.

If we raise $40,000, GOP chairman Dave Williams will receive a copy of the Colorado GOP's bylaws personally signed by 9news’ Kyle Clark (or something that looks close to his signature).

If we raise $60,000, the Colorado Press Association will receive the board game Clue, with a few missing pieces, in hopes they get a clue that the press is supposed to support open meetings in government instead of celebrating when politicians take away transparency.

If we raise $80,000, the Jefferson County Commissioners, US representative Brittany Petterson and her husband Ian Silveri will receive a $340,000 gift certificate to the Daniels College of Business for ethics classes. That $340,000 is the same amount that they took from taxpayers for their totally above board, definitely not a sweetheart deal to enrich themselves while killing TABOR. If the Daniels College of Business doesn't recognize the gift certificate, consider it a lesson in ethics.

And if we reach our top goal of $100,000 raised on Colorado Gives Day, we will present Representative Julie McCluskey and senator Steve Fenberg the cheapest self-tanning spray we could find off Temu.com for their tireless work keeping sunshine from reaching the Colorado State legislature.

Please make these gifts possible by supporting our work at Independence Institute to keep Colorado from turning into California. Make your Colorado Gives Day contribution here

And welcome to East California!
