Turbulent start to the year for the EU Over the last few days, Decrees issued by the US President have caused pandemonium not just in America but also most of Europe. For this reason we produced a cepAdhoc last month, in which we also looked at the challenges facing Europe as a result of the changeover at the White House. cep President, Prof. Lüder Gerken, has also summarised this in an article for ZEIT. In another cepAdhoc, we presented the "Ukraine Plus" model as a possible result of the Brexit negotiations - a subject that we will continue to occupy ourselves with. The Energy Efficiency Directive of 2012 is to be amended. A stricter, and now also binding, energy savings target of 30% by 2030 will apply in the EU. In order to achieve this target, the Member States will be subject to detailed energy savings obligations.
