There was plenty of football news coming out of LSU on Monday, but none of it jarred and stirred Tiger fans more than the news that CBS passed on LSU's next home game with Tennessee on Oct. 8. Not once, but twice. CBS has its once-a-season doubleheader scheduled for that weekend, with games at 2:30 and 7 p.m. The network snubbed the Tigers and Volunteers for both games, picking Texas A&M at Alabama for its prime-time game as expected and Auburn at Georgia for the afternoon slot. ESPN, which can't show a prime-time game opposite the CBS prime-time telecast, snapped up the LSU-Tennessee game but for its 11 a.m. slot. The SEC Network has one, but ESPN put South Carolina at Kentucky in that spot instead. Whenever it is played, the Tennessee game is part of a challenging October for LSU that starts with this Saturday's game at Auburn (6 p.m., ESPN). The Tigers then go to Florida on Oct. 15 and host Ole Miss on Oct. 22. Coach Brian Kelly knows the month will tell a lot about his team, which has won three straight. In my column, I write about the challenges ahead for LSU and the snub from CBS. Kelly covered a host of other topics Monday at his weekly presser, including injury updates on quarterback Jayden Daniels and others; an update on newly eligible safety Joe Foucha; and what changes may be in store for LSU in the kickoff role currently occupied by Damian Ramos. Monday also marked the first day of practice for LSU's women's basketball team. Coach Kim Mulkey spoke about the coming season, her second at LSU, but declined once again to make any statement about Brittney Griner, her former star player currently imprisoned in Russia. Our appreciation as always for you supporting and subscribing to our LSU newsletter. Have a great Tuesday, and hopefully no one snubs you like CBS did the Tigers and Vols. Scott Rabalais |
