Perhaps you might feel that your ideas are the most practical and that by asserting them you will be able to sway others to your opinion. Even though knowing what you hold to be true and having firm convictions is important, not wavering in your ideas could limit you if you are not receptive to others' ideas. Before insisting on your opinions today, you may want to make an extra effort to listen to the thoughts of those around you first. As you listen, you can try paying attention to the thoughts running through your mind and ask yourself if you are really listening to what you hear or already formulating a rebuttal. You might find that by slowing down your own thoughts and listening fully you will be much more able to express your own ideas effectively. Taking the time to understand another person before giving our own opinions allows us to be more persuasive. The best form of communication is one that links an idea to another in a smooth stream of ideas and words. Even though this type of interaction is an ideal, paying attention to the person we're talking to helps us reach a greater understanding by bettering our communication; we are much more able to emphasize our beliefs when we have this form of openness in our dialogue.
