Good morning and welcome to Tuesday. Three weeks to go until Election Day. The final debate in the presidential campaign is tomorrow night. 1. A new poll of 600 likely voters shows Democrat Angie Craig with a lead over Republican Jason Lewis in their race for the open 2nd District Congressional seat. The KSTP/Survey USA poll shows Craig with 46 percent and Lewis with 41 percent, with 12 percent undecided. It also shows Hillary Clinton with an 8 point lead over Donald Trump in the district. (KSTP)
2. A former Republican lawmaker trying to make a comeback and the chair of the tax committee defending his seat are two of the races this year in Southeastern Minnesota that could make a big difference in which party controls the Minnesota House next year. (MPR News)
3. The only tribal representative on the 17-member group that advises state regulators on walleye fishing on Mille Lacs Lake has resigned, contending the committee has “devolved into an anti-science, anti-treaty rights forum subsidized by state resources.” Jamie Edwards, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s director of government affairs, made the claim in a letter to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Landwehr announcing his resignation from the Mille Lacs Fisheries Advisory Committee. 4. A day after saying “we will absolutely accept the result of the election,” Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pencewarned supporters about “voter fraud” and the media rigging the election, much as Donald Trump has said recently on the campaign trail.Pence called on supporters to “respectfully participate” in poll watching during the election.Trump tweeted on Monday morning: “Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day.” (NBC News)
5. A senior State Department official asked the FBI to help last year in reducing the classification of an email from Hillary Clinton’s private server, according to FBI investigative files made public Monday. It was to be part of a bargain that would have allowed the FBI to deploy more agents in foreign countries, according to the files. Both the FBI and the State Department denied Monday that there was any “quid pro quo” involved, but some Republicans called for an investigation. (AP)
