| | | D.C.-area forecast: Summery with a storm risk today, then a real scorcher tomorrow | TODAY’S DAILY DIGIT A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10. 6/10: A classically hot and humid July day with a 50/50 chance you’ll see a storm or two. EXPRESS FORECAST Today: Partly sunny and humid, storms possible. Highs: Upper 80s to low 90s. Tonight: Muggy with chance of evening storms. Lows: 70s. Tomorrow: Very hot and humid. Highs: Mid-90s, heat index near 105. View the current weather conditions at The Washington Post headquarters. FORECAST IN DETAIL Temperatures and humidity both trend a bit higher today, but tomorrow is the truly scorching day of the forecast period, with the heat index probably topping out near 105. Friday looks pretty hot as well, before the heat and humidity relent just a bit for the weekend. Today presents the best chance of showers and storms, but not the only chance. Today (Wednesday): We’re back into the soup today with very high humidity (dew points in the low 70s), and highs heading for the upper 80s to low 90s under partly sunny skies. Those increased moisture levels fuel a chance of some heavy showers and storms. Can’t rule out a few showers this morning, but the better chance comes this afternoon into the evening, with about a 50% chance of seeing a storm or two at any given location. Winds are light from the south around 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium Tonight: Shower and storm chances continue around 50% through mid-evening, then diminish late evening and overnight. It’s super muggy with partly cloudy skies and lows holding up in the 70s. Confidence: Medium

Keep reading for the forecast through the weekend… Tomorrow (Thursday): The heat is back in a big way for our Thursday. Partly to mostly sunny skies and a warmer breeze from the west-southwest send highs into the mid-90s. And with the humidity still in the high range, we’ll probably see the afternoon heat index max out near 105. Could see a late afternoon or early evening shower or storm. Confidence: Medium-High A Herndon Hammerhead swimmer gives an Oakton Otter swimmer a ribbon for winning a heat during their swim meet yesterday in Herndon, Va. (Kevin Ambrose) Tomorrow night: Other than the chance of an early-evening shower or storm, we’re just warm and partly cloudy through the overnight. In fact, it may be one of the steamiest nights we have this summer, with lows mainly in the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium-High A LOOK AHEAD The high heat hangs around for Friday, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs heading for the low-to-mid 90s. There’s still plenty of humidity around as well, and maybe an isolated storm. Not quite as hot on Saturday and Sunday, with highs reaching the upper 80s to low 90s, and humidity retreating to the moderate range. As of now, we still run the risk of a shower or storm each day. Confidence: Low-Medium |
