Tomorrow (Thursday): The last day of June is another beauty, even as temperatures climb slightly higher. Mostly sunny skies help lift highs toward the mid-80s, as high pressure keeps the humidity in check. Winds remain light and are variable in direction. Confidence: High Tomorrow night: Moisture levels start to increase again as a light breeze comes from the southeast. That could spawn an isolated shower or two, especially south and east of the District. Otherwise, skies should be partly cloudy with muggier lows, in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High Yesterday’s sunset from Georgetown. (Hannah Campbell via Twitter) A LOOK AHEAD Friday brings a 30 percent chance of an afternoon or evening thunderstorm as we sit between one front to our southeast and another slowly approaching from the northwest. A wind from the south increases the humidity, as highs rise to the mid-80s to near 90 under partly sunny skies. Confidence: Medium That front may push far enough to our south to limit shower and storm chances on Saturday and Sunday to around 20 percent or less, although there’s still a chance the front stalls close enough to increase those odds a bit. Highs should end up in the 80s both days, with a bit less humidity and at least partial sunshine. Confidence: Low-Medium The July 4 forecast is, unfortunately, highly uncertain. The question is whether a system approaching from the west arrives fast enough to disrupt the day with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, or whether it holds off until later Monday night or Tuesday, or even misses our area to the south. We should have a better idea in the next couple of days. Right now, highs look like they’ll top out in the 80s. Confidence: Low |
