FORECAST IN DETAIL

Sunshine should reemerge this afternoon after some early snow showers. But temperatures run about 10 degrees behind yesterday, along with a cool breeze. We’ll rebound warmer tomorrow and Tuesday, before cooling off again Wednesday. Meanwhile precipitation is of the “polite” variety, mainly confined to evening or overnight hours.

Today (Sunday): Snow showers could linger until about 9 to 10 a.m. this morning. With early-to-midmorning temperatures in the 30s, a light accumulation is possible, mainly on grass and side roads north and northwest of the District. Winds gust from the north about 25 mph, so it’s not a particularly pleasant day outside, even with skies turning partly to mostly sunny as we head into afternoon. Highs range from the mid-40s to around 50. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: The winds tend to die off quickly this evening, so that’s a plus. Otherwise, we’re partly cloudy and cool, with overnight lows down to the 30s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): We start off partly to mostly sunny, but clouds may increase during the afternoon as another system works toward the region. Our far north and west suburbs could see scattered showers moving in by late afternoon or early evening, but most of us should stay dry through the commute home. Temperatures turn milder as well, reaching highs in the mid-50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Some spotty showers are possible (30-40% chance) as a weak upper-level disturbance swings through. Overnight lows settle in the low-t0-mid 40s under mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Tuesday looks variably cloudy and mild, with highs heading for the upper 50s to near 60. More rain showers are possible Tuesday night as an area of low pressure develops to our south, and can’t rule out a few snowflakes mixing in as lows drop into the mid-to-upper 30s. Confidence: Medium

High pressure pushes back into the area Wednesday, along with a blustery breeze. After the chance of an early snow shower, temperatures probably can’t do better than the mid-40s to near 50 for highs, despite increasing sun. Confidence: Medium
