Fall colors are on the increase, even right around D.C. (Erinn Shirley via Flickr) TODAY’S DAILY DIGIT A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10. 4/10: Some sun, and it’s Saturday. But lots of wind and below-normal temperatures aren’t the most pleasant combo. EXPRESS FORECAST Today: Partly sunny. Windy Highs: Mid-50s to low 60s. Tonight: Mostly clear, breezy. Lows: Upper 30s to mid-40s. Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Highs: Mid-to-upper 60s. View the current weather conditions at The Washington Post headquarters. FORECAST IN DETAIL If you’re among those who disliked all the warm weather of the workweek, today is your day. Sort of. It’s not the most pleasant cool day we could have as winds gust strongly throughout. But it’s not humid, and it’s not feeling like late summer instead of late October. And if you were hoping for some middle ground, tomorrow should be more your style. Today (Saturday): As a storm continues to strengthen while heading north through New England, a strong pressure change between it and high pressure to the southwest will keep winds roaring today. Clouds seem likely to be most numerous in the early morning and again by midday or afternoon, but sunshine and clouds may be mixed for most of the daytime given very cold air aloft. Winds blow from the northwest around 20 to 30 mph much of the time, probably peaking in the midday to afternoon. Some gusts may reach or top 40 to 45 mph. Any shower risk is pretty minor. The best odds are near sunrise and maybe very isolated later in the day. Highs range from the mid-50s to low 60s, but they may be bunched in that range depending on sunnier versus cloudier conditions. Confidence: Medium Tonight: Wind speeds get cut in half by late evening and then slowly diminish thereafter. It’s still breezy, but nothing notable. Keeping the air mixed does help keep it from reaching its coldest potential. Still, it’s a seasonably cold air mass, so many places head into the 30s. A range is probably something like 36 to 45, with most places in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Confidence: Medium-High |
