The Cost of Cancer: Where to from Here?

Please join us as we launch the latest report from the Cancer Alliance, forecasting the cost of cancer by 2030 and unpacking solutions to the crisis that faces us.

The webinar’s focus is on discussing the research results and comments from various roleplayers. We certainly now need solutions and cannot afford talking about our problems any longer.

Elize Joubert, CANSA CEO: “This unique report reflects the findings from a research study that was commissioned by the Cancer Alliance and to which CANSA contributed financially to investigate the current status of availability and affordability of cancer medicine in SA. This report highlights the availability and affordability issues resulting from the patent rights on specific cancer medicines. The recommendations to a variety of key players in this field, focus on the debate on re-think / re-design / re-engineer cancer care services in light of the proposed National Health Insurance (NHI). National programmes can only succeed with the support of governments, which should have clear strategies and adequate funding to promote prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.”

About the Reports

This report is another first for South Africa, ‘Estimating and Projecting the Cancer Burden in South Africa’. Our cancer burden is going to increase exponentially and the projected cost associated is R50 billion over a 10 year period. This further provides us with the tools for future resource planning and budgeting.
