On this day 45 years ago, The Canberra Times reported that about 1000 blocks of serviced residential land, worth about $6 million, were lying idle awaiting allocation by the Department of the Capital Territory. The stockpile was expected to increase by about 40 blocks, or almost $250,000, a month until Australia's economic situation improved or Canberra's land development program was slowed.
