Ignoring rules: Last year, crews began road construction work on St. Roch Avenue in New Orleans. Some residents worry that the century-old oak trees that line the roadway are being battered in the process, Stephanie Riegel reports.
Grand restoration: When the Oleander Hotel opened on Grand Isle in 1929 it was the height of “modern” luxury. Nearly a century later, the hotel still stands but is in no condition for guests. Blake Paterson reports that a group on the island is trying to raise nearly $400,000 to return the hotel to its former grandeur.
