Good morning and welcome to the June 25 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. We're about a month out until training camp, so until then, we're going to start a countdown with our position previews. Up first: Quarterback. Carr's healthTo give you a peak at how we're tackling each of our position previews, we're breaking it down by who's on the roster, asking a burning question and making a bold prediction. For the quarterbacks, I focused on whether Derek Carr can stay healthy. Yes, the quarterback played all 17 games last year. But he was banged up with a nagging shoulder injury, fractured ribs and several concussions at various points. So naturally, in addition to Carr's health, I took a look at where the backup quarterback battle stands. Roundtable part 2We've also got another edition of our roundtable, which focused on Alvin Kamara's contract and whether we should be worried. Here was my take: "I’m not overly concerned, though I grapple with what the Saints should do. Keeping their options open with a player whose production has slipped is smart, and so should they really look to guarantee him some money in 2025? Kamara, though, means a lot to this franchise and he could easily have a bounce-back season in this new offense. A Derrick Henry-like bridge deal (two years, $16 million with $9 million guaranteed) may make sense." One last shoutoutBefore we go, I just want to give a big congratulations to our own Rod Walker, who racked up all sorts of honors at Louisiana Sports Writers Association's annual awards brunch Sunday. Rod was even named Sportswriter of the Year, his fourth time taking home the award. I'm glad to work with him and have learned a lot since joining the crew last year. Anyway, that's all for now. Hope you guys enjoy your week. Take care, Matthew Paras |
