What is targeting? It's one of the most vexing questions in football, along with what defines a catch. Like what makes a piece of art good art, the definition of targeting is elusive, often seeming to depend on the eye of the beholder. Our Leah Vann takes a deep open date week dive into what targeting is and what makes it the most controversial call in college football. While LSU, and its next opponent Alabama, are taking the week off, the season marches on. Our Sheldon Mickles ranks the teams in the SEC in this week's conference power ratings. Basketball season is drawing nearer as well, and with it all the preseason predictions and all-conference teams and honors. Thursday, LSU forward KJ Williams was named to the 20-man Karl Malone Award preseason watch list. The 6-foot-10 Williams transferred to LSU from Murray State, following new Tigers' coach Matt McMahon to Baton Rouge. Finally, even though LSU isn't playing this weekend, there are still games to watch that involve the Tigers in different ways. Sheldon is back, giving us five games to watch this weekend: Ohio State at Penn State: Penn State coach James Franklin was talked up as a serious candidate for the LSU job before Brian Kelly was hired.Kentucky at Tennessee: The Volunteers, who beat LSU 40-13, are trying to get past the dangerous Wildcats to set up a huge showdown next week with Georgia.Oklahoma State at Kansas State: Okie State coach Mike "I'm a man! I'm 40!" Gundy still pops off occasionally about how his Cowboys would have beaten LSU for the 2011 national title. No way, Mike. Sorry.Ole Miss at Texas A&M: The Rebels try to bounce back after losing 45-20 to LSU and the Aggies are just, well, looking for a bounce after three straight losses.Notre Dame at Syracuse: Kelly's old Fighting Irish team is a middling 4-3 and an underdog today. Think they're missing Kelly in South Bend yet? Thanks for making us a part of your college football Saturday.
